Burnham-on-Sea CC win division 3

Burnham-on-Sea Cricket Club, sponsored by House Fox Estate Agents, has won the Somerset County League Division 3 with a 10 wicket win over Taunton St Andrews CC. They now only need one promotion to take them to the Premier Division.

“Semi-professional cricket is within our grasp,” says the Club’s Chairman. “There are three divisions above the Somerset Premier League—all in the West of England League. We could find ourselves playing in the WEPL division 3 in a few years from now.”

The club has played continuously since 1861 and now plays at Stoddens Road. It boasts an international test cricketer among its alumnae. Sammy Woods played Test cricket for England and Australia during the 1890s. Sammy played over 400 first-class matches in a career spanning 24 years. Most of the games he graced were for Somerset, whom he captained from 1894 to 1906. Incredibly, he also appeared 13 times for the England Rugby Union team and represented his county at both football and hockey.

The club has also provided a number of players for Somerset in the County Championship competition.

Burnham-on-Sea CC is a friendly, sociable, and inclusive cricket club and welcomes new members.
